A Well-Meaning Neighbor

The well was deep, and it was dangerous, but it was also the only permanent source of water within a two-mile walk for the people of Sandor’s village. Severe drought had made water scarce. Many villagers, in desperation, spent hard-earned money on water from an itinerant water tanker service. But numerous others, such as daily wage laborers, couldn’t afford the fee to buy water; it would consume more than a few days’ wages.

One day, GFA pastor Rodin passed through this small village and spoke to Sandor and his family. The message he shared about a man called Jesus intrigued them, and the pastor began visiting this family every week so they could learn more.

Pastor Rodin learned, too; he learned that the community urgently needed a bore well and that Sandor was willing to donate a piece of his own land so his family and neighbors could finally have free, clean water.

With a desire to help Sandor’s village, Pastor Rodin prayerfully submitted their need to regional church leaders. Within a few months, Sandor’s land was home to a new Jesus Well! The well was a great blessing to the entire community.

Seeing God’s concern and love for them, Sandor and his family grew in their newfound faith. Their neighbors also gratefully witnessed this love as the church provided for their basic need of clean water.

“One of our great tensions is solved through the Jesus Well,” said one neighbor.

Residents in this village no longer have to journey and risk falling in an open well to retrieve water. Thanks to their neighbor’s generosity and a pastor’s compassion, everyone in the village has free access to safe, clean water.

Water constitutes approximately 60 percent of the human body and is essential to its proper function.1 But what if you don’t have access to water? Or what if your water source is tainted and delivers disease rather than health? It’s estimated that 663 million people across the globe don’t have access to safe drinking water.2

GFA is helping meet this need by providing Jesus Wells, which offer life and health to entire communities and testify of the Living Water.
