Water is essential for life. Yet 663 million people across the globe don’t have access to safe drinking water.¹ In many of these areas, water can be scarce, and locals are forced to travel miles, often by foot, to obtain it and then haul it back to their homes for everyday use. But the water is often contaminated, and the people forced to drink it suffer from waterborne diseases.

GFA World is helping meet the need of water-starved people by providing Jesus Wells and BioSand water filters. Jesus Wells can serve an average of 300 people a day for about 10 to 20 years with fresh, clean water. BioSand water filters remove 98 percent of impurities in the water.² These resources offer life and health to entire communities and testify of the Living Water.

But many remain in need.

When a person has no water, it can lead to despair. In Luke 16, Jesus tells of a man in hell who is desperate for just one drop of it. Today, there are millions of people who need clean water. In arid regions, the water table recedes during dry months, which can cause open wells and natural reservoirs to become obsolete.³ Many people travel long distances every day to meet their water needs but only have access to polluted water that can make them sick.

Pray that those in need of clean water gain access to it—whether through Jesus Wells, BioSand water filters or other means. Pray also for people’s health, that God will protect them from waterborne diseases.

Like the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4, many people around the world trek to a well every day for water, but their need for Living Water is even greater. Every Jesus Well bears a plaque pointing to the Living Water: “Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14).

For some, seeing this plaque is the first time they have ever seen or heard Jesus’ name.

Many others have yet to taste this Living Water and see that the Lord is good.

Pray for those who utilize Jesus Wells and BioSand water filters, that their hearts will be stirred by the love shown in these blessings to the community and that they will drink of the Living Water.

GFA’s clean water ministry is delivering safe, disease-free water to families in Africa and Asia. Though GFA World has installed thousands of Jesus Wells and distributed even more BioSand water filters, the need remains vast. While some families lack a reliable nearby water source, others are forced to use contaminated water. Countless communities face water shortages every year. GFA missionaries desire to bless families and communities in need of clean water, but they are limited by resources. Every Jesus Well that is installed and BioSand water filter that is constructed costs money. While GFA missionaries utilize local labor and materials to keep costs low, dollars must be present to purchase materials and pay laborers.

Pray for the funds to provide many more Jesus Wells and BioSand water filters to people in desperate need of clean water. Pray that people will become aware of these needs and give generously so that others might have life giving, clean water.

There are many communities and families that could benefit from a Jesus Well or BioSand water filter. Because the need exceeds available resources, leaders must choose which community or family to help and how to best meet their needs. Faced with difficult decisions, they need divine guidance.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide leaders on the field and give them discernment and divine wisdom regarding how to best use their resources to provide clean water to people in need. Pray for wisdom on where to drill wells for optimum results.

GFA World estimates more than 37.5 million men, women and children have access to clean water from Jesus Wells and BioSand water filters. Praise the Lord! Although the equipment is heavy-duty and durable, these families and communities will benefit only as long as these resources are well maintained and functioning properly.

Pray that Jesus Wells will not dry up but will continue providing water for the surrounding communities. Pray that existing Jesus Wells and BioSand water filters will endure, in good working order, as a lasting testimony of God’s love for generations to come.
