The Berhampur Odisha Region

The “Green Garden of Odisha,” the Berhampur Odisha Region has an immense natural beauty in waterfalls, springs and lush hills.

The climate here is comfortable, and farming provides an income for the majority of people. The turmeric spice grown here is exported throughout India and even to Europe. The Kalinga Valley in this region is famous for its medicinal plants and abundant rubber and bamboo products. The region is also known as a home for wild tigers, elephants and other wildlife.

The Berhampur Odisha Region is heavily tribal and very poor. Many villages are isolated from the modern world. In some places, clothing is not even part of the culture.

It was here in this region that intense persecution broke out in 2008, leaving hundreds of Christians dead and thousands homeless.
