The North Tamil Nadu Region

The North Tamil Nadu Region contains both rural areas—where people rely on agriculture for their livelihoods—and cities, where industrial work is a mainstay for the economy. In addition, fishing is common in the coastal areas.

Hinduism, Islam and Christianity are the main religions practiced, although some also follow Sikhism.

The Apostle Thomas, the first Christian missionary to Tamil Nadu, was martyred near the modern-day city of Chennai in A.D. 72. This city has a large population of Christians today.
